New — and some not-so-new — screen printers sometimes struggle with pricing. Let’s identify a starting point to begin the pricing process for your own shop. For the most part, decorators do a little detective work on the front end. Using multiple methods of either intrigue or just logging onto a website, they find out how much other printers in the area charge for their services. The purpose of this isn’t to find a price-for-price match, and it’s certainly not because your price should be lower than everyone else’s. Rather, it’s good to know and understand what the decorators’ landscape looks like in your area.

Building a price sheet works something like this:
Take the price you pay for shirts, add the shipping cost — because that’s a part of the price — and double it. For most decorators, that’s the base blank-shirt price. Then, add the printing charge, taking into account the shirt quantity and number of ink colors.

In Figure 1, the prices on the “One Color” row are for a single-color print. For each additional color in a graphic, look at the “Plus Color” row and add this amount for each additional color.
