What do I prefer as far as a parrot's size goes? What's the difference between a small parrot and a large parrot?

Parrots can be a 'pet' or they can be a companion that is a lifestyle for you. The bigger the parrot, the more having a parrot is a lifestyle. A Macaw, for example, is like having a perpetual 3 to 5 year-old. They want attention, don't do well with strangers and require fresh water, food and vegetables daily.

A smaller parrot, like a Parrotlet or a Budgie, also like attention and they too need to be taken care of on a daily basis, but their size makes it easy to make them mobile.
