My Senegal Parrot does a high pitched whistle. Why and how can I prevent it? A viewer asked about why Senegal Parrots make this loud shriek and how it can be avoided?
This is usually a contact call which Senegals make when you leave or when they are trying to get your attention. It's not as bad as compared to the calls of other species but may still be annoying. Try to teach your parrot an alternative. Whenever you leave the room, say "bye bye". The parrot may learn to say that whenever you are leaving instead of whistling,
Likewise whenever you enter the room, say "hello" so your parrot can learn to get you to come by saying hello rather than by yelling. Ignore the screaming but drop what you are doing and give your parrot attention when it says hello, talks, or makes a less unpleasant sound.
